How to use: Watercolour pencils

Are you more comfortable using pencil crayons but love the watercolour look? You are in the right place. Watercolour pencil crayons and a water brush can make using 'water' and 'colour' a little less daunting... So read on for what you'll need, a step-by-step guide and top tips to get creative and transform your occasion stationery using Watercolour pencil crayons.

You will need:

  1. Water brush (eg. Derwent or Pentel)

  2. Watercolour pencil crayons (eg. Derwent)

  3. Optional: A curious mindset, Kickass playlist, Inspirational moodboard and colours

Step One: Colour in with the Watercolour pencil crayons

Choose and test your colours on a separate piece of paper, until you are happy with your 3 – 4 colours to work with (or less, depending if you want a multi colour or monochrome style). Remember, a little will go a long way when you use the Water brush in Step Two.

Step Two: Spread the colour with the Water brush

This is so much fun. The specialist Water Brush allows you to easily control how much water is in the nib of the brush, the water is always clean. Easy peasy! Spread the pigment of the specialist Watercolour pencil crayons and recreate the watercolour look.

Experiment: You might like to try out the specialist Watercolour pencil crayons and brush in advance before starting to paint your design, to see what colours and effects you like. Enjoy, have fun and share your creations before you post them, I'd love to see them!

Top Tips:

  • Don't use too much water on the paper. It will warp the card!

  • Don't worry about painting outside of the lines, or not fully filling with colour inside the lines. This in fact makes it personal & unique. It will have a charm that you cannot buy.

  • Don't be afraid to combine mediums for unique look. You could also use colouring pens or glitter pens, etc to add detail once the paint is dry.

Have fun!
